This story app describes how my interest in spatial analysis developed through my lived, educational and work experience across different cities and countries.
I made three maps exploring refugee data available for the Syrian Civil War and presented the maps as part of a Story Map alongside other text, images and video content.
Two maps have been developed using data from UNHCR data (population & demographics) and the third map visualizes information collected on political alliances.
1. Time series map visualizing global displaced population during the years 1969-2021
2. A time series map, clustering data on gender distribution of the global displaced syrian population 2000-2010
3. A map showing global political alliances during the Syrian conflict.
The UNHCR demographics data was inconsistent and incomplete, so I filtered population data for which Syria was listed as the 'country of origin' for refugees and the total male and female population was not recorded as 0.
Each survey collects information about user preference, needs and different facilities available at each park. I developed the survey in English & in Urdu using Survey123. Below is a result of the participatory mapping of parks in Karachi and the survey developed.
Created a web scene depicting a pavilion and playground at Bob Woodruff Park in Plano. The scene was created using feature layers and 3D object symbols. The height attribute contained in the attribute table of the feature layer is used to extrude buildings and assign objects heights. Used time of day settings to observe the movement of the sun across the site at a given time and day.
